The Twins Officially Sign Buxton

The Twins have officially signed 2nd overall pick outfielder Byron Buxton to his first professional contract with a $6 Million signing bonus. Buxton passed his physical Tuesday and took batting practice with the Twins. He's expected to start his pro career at rookie camp in Fort Myers, Florida with a likely promotion coming soon to play in Elizabethton, Tennessee. Buxton was the 2nd overall pick in the first round in the baseball draft last Monday.

Twins Outscore Phillies 11-7

The Twins outscored the Phillies at Target Field 11-7 Tuesday in the first game of a 3-game series. Minnesota scored 4 runs in the 2nd inning to get off to a good start. Trevor Plouffe went 3-5 with a homerun, 3 runs scored and 3 RBIs. Plouffe has 10 homeruns this season. Josh Willingham and Denard Span each had solo homeruns, Ben Revere was 3-5 with 2 RBIs and Jamey Carroll went 3-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs for the Twins. Nick Blackburn threw 5 innings with 8 hits and 4 earned runs allowed to get the win and improves to 3-4.

Twins Agree to Terms With Buxton; Host Phillies Tonight

The Twins reportedly agreed to a contract with 2nd overall pick Byron Buxton Monday. The 18-year old outfielder was selected in the first round (2nd overall) by the Twins in last Monday's baseball draft. Buxton is considered a 5-tool player right out of high school in Georgia. The new agreement with Buxton and the Twins is contingent on Buxton passing a physical today. Buxton is expected to report to rookie camp in Fort Myers, Florida.

Cubs Beat Twins 8-2 to Avoid Sweep

The Twins lost 8-2 home to the Chicago Cubs Sunday afternoon. Minnesota was trying for a sweep of the 3-game series. Ryan Dempster threw 8 shutout innings with 4 hits allowed to get the win and improve to 2-3. Francisco Liriano allowed 4 hits, 3 walks and 4 earned runs allowed to take the loss and drop to 1-7. Jamey Carroll was 2-4 with 1 RBI and Trevor Plouffe was 2-4 for the Twins.

Twins, Mauer Pound Cubs 11-3

The Twins defeated the Chicago Cubs 11-3 Saturday afternoon behind Joe Mauer. Mauer had missed 4 games with a thumb injury but in his first game back was 3-4 with a run scored and 2 RBIs. Trevor Plouffe had another solid game going 2-4 with his 9th homerun of the season. Justin Morneau went 2-2 with 2 runs scored for Minnesota. Scott Diamond threw 6 shutout innings with 7 hits allowed with 5 strikeouts to get the win and improve to 5-1.

Twins Get Walk-Off Hit From Willingham

The Twins have won 8 of their last 10 after beating the Chicago Cubs 8-7 in 10 innings Friday night. Josh Willingham's RBI single in the 10th won the game for Minnesota. The Twins trailed 5-2 before taking a 6-5 lead. The Cubs got a 2-run homerun from Rafael Soriano to take a 7-6 lead. Justin Morneau's RBI triple scored Willingham in the 9th inning to tie the game. Trevor Plouffe and Ryan Doumit each had 2 hits including a solo homerun for Minnesota and Ben Revere added 3 hits for the Twins.

Twins Callup Parmelee, Option DeVries

The Twins called up first baseman Chris Parmelee from triple-A Rochester and sent righthander Cole DeVries to triple-A Rochester to make room for Parmelee. Parmelee was batting .375 with 4 homeruns and 12 RBIs at triple-A. He was hitting .179 in 27 games with the Twins to begin the season. DeVries was 1-1 with a 4.20 ERA in 3 starts for the Twins.

The Twins downed Kansas City 4-2 Wednesday night to win the series 2 games to 1. Nick Blackburn came off the disabled list to threw 5 innings with 5 hits and 2 earned runs allowed to get the win and improve to 2-4 on the season. The Twins' bullpen threw 4 shutout innings with 2 hits allowed. Matt Capps threw a scoreless 9th inning to get the save for Minnesota. Justin Morneau was 2-4 with 2 RBIs and Ben Revere went 2-5 with 2 runs scored for the Twins.

The Twins saw their 3-game win streak get snapped Tuesday night when they lost 1-0 at Kansas City. Bruce Chen threw 7 shutout innings with 4 hits allowed to get the win. Twins Select More Power Arms

The Twins chose a pair of power arms in the 2nd round of the Major League Baseball draft Tuesday. They picked lefthander Mason Melotakis of Northwestern State in Louisiana at #63 overall. Melotakis projects as a late inning reliever that can throw 96 MPH. The Twins picked righthander J.T. Chargois of Rice University with the #72 pick. Chargois is a first baseman and late inning pitcher at Rice. He projects as a late inning relief pitcher that throws 96 MPH.
