Twins Select More Power Arms

The Twins chose a pair of power arms in the 2nd round of the Major League Baseball draft Tuesday. They picked lefthander Mason Melotakis of Northwestern State in Louisiana at #63 overall. Melotakis projects as a late inning reliever that can throw 96 MPH. The Twins picked righthander J.T. Chargois of Rice University with the #72 pick. Chargois is a first baseman and late inning pitcher at Rice. He projects as a late inning relief pitcher that throws 96 MPH.

Twins Choose Buxton 2nd Overall Then Take Pitching

The Twins picked speedy outfielder Byron Buxton with the 2nd overall pick in the baseball entry draft Monday night. Buxton was considered by many to be the best prospect in the draft. Houston chose first and picked shortstop Carlos Correa. Buxton is 6'2 190 pounds with great speed, solid bat and great arm. He's been clocked at 99 MPH when pitching.

The Twins defeated the Royals 10-7 in Kansas City Monday night to earn their 3rd straight win and to win their 6th in their last 7. Ben Revere was 3-5 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs, Jamey Carroll was 3-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs, Josh Willingham went 2-3 with a homerun with 3 RBIs and Justin Morneau hit a 2-run homerun for the Twins. Cole DeVries earned his first major league win throwing 5 innings with 6 hits and 4 earned runs. Matt Capps recorded the final our for his 13th save.

MLB Draft Begins Tonight; Twins Pick #2 Overall

The Twins have the #2 overall pick in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft that takes place tonight at 6pm. See it on the MLB Network. Houston has the first pick and is expected to choose righthanded starting pitcher Mark Appel of Stanford. The Twins will likely choose between high school outfield prospect Byron Buxton from Georgia and starting pitching prospect Kyle Zimmer from the University of San Francisco.

The Twins downed Cleveland 6-3 Sunday afternoon to win 2 of 3 games from the Indians in the weekend series. The Twins downed Cleveland 7-4 Saturday night behind solid performances from Trevor Plouffe and Joe Mauer. Mauer was 3-5 with a 2-run homerun and 3 RBIs on the night and Plouffe was 2-4 with a solo homerun and 3 RBIs on the night. Ben Revere and Denard Span each added 2 hits and Revere scored 2 runs. P.J. Walters started the game but didn't hang around long enough to get the win. He allowed 8 hits and 4 earned runs in 4 1/3 innings.

The Twins lost 7-1 in Cleveland Friday night to end their 3-game win streak. Carl Pavano allowed 9 hits and 7 runs (6 earned) in just 3 2/3 innings to take the loss and drop to 2-5. Josh Willingham hit a walk-off 3-run homerun in the bottom of the 9th inning off Oakland closer Brian Fuentes to lift the Twins to a 3-2 win over Oakland Tuesday night. Justin Morneau and Ben Revere each had 2 hits for the Twins. Cole DeVries threw 5 shutout innings wieh 2 hits and 5 walks allowed but didn't figure in the final decision. Glen Perkins threw a scoreless 9th inning to get the win and improve to 1-1.
