Apollo’s Kessler Says Abukar Won’t Play Wednesday

St. Cloud Apollo boys basketball coach Dean Kessler said Monday senior point guard Ibrahim Abukar will not play Wednesday when the Eagles play Orono in the Class 3A State Tournament Quarterfinals at Williams Arena.  Abukar will have surgery this morning to extract his bone marrow to give it to his 13-year old sister who’s in need of a bone marrow transplant.  Kessler said he hopes Abukar will be healthy enough to attend the game and he didn’t rule Abukar out for the entire tournament.  If Apollo wins Wednesday they will play the Waconia/Grand Rapids winner at 2pm Thursday and the Class 3A State Championship game is at 6pm Saturday.  Apollo plays Orono at 4pm Wednesday, pregame on WJON at 3:55.
