LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The Minnesota Wild lost their first game of the season Friday night in a 3-2 loss in overtime to the Los Angeles Kings.

The Wild were unable to score on Kings goalie Jonathan Quick until Mikko Koivu netted his second goal of the season five-and-a-half minutes into the final period.

That would be the extent of Minnesota's scoring as Quick saved 25 of 26 shots on goal.

Darcy Kuemper got the start between the pipes with starting goalie Devan Dubnyk getting the night off. Kuemper played well, saving 35 shots, but the Kings scored early in the extra period under the new 3-on-3 overtime format.

With the loss, the Wild fall to 3-0-1 (7 points) on the season. Minnesota will continue their California road trip in Anaheim Sunday night against the winless Ducks.
