Twins Beat Orioles 6-4; Capps on DL
The Twins defeated Baltimore 6-4 Tuesday night to win the first 2 games of the 4-game series. Minnesota broke the 4-all tie with 2 runs in the 7th inning. Ben Revere had the go-ahead RBI single in the 7th. Joe Mauer was 3-4 with 1 RBI and Ryan Doumit was 2-5 with 2 RBIs for the Twins.
Alex Burnett threw 1 inning of scoreless relief to get the win and Jared Burton threw a scoreless 9th inning to grab his 3rd save. Sam Deduno started the game for the Twins and threw 4 1/3 innings with 6 hits and 3 earned runs allowed. Adam Jones hit a 3-run homerun for the Orioles.
The Twins placed closer Matt Capps on the 15-day disabled list with a rotator cuff injury and recalled Nick Blackburn from triple-A Rochester. Blackburn goes back into the Twins rotation and will start Friday night at Kansas City. Blackburn was 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA in 21 innings at triple-A Rochester. Brian Duensing goes back to the bullpen.
The Twins play at Baltimore again tonight at 7:10, pregame on WJON at 6:40. Lefthander Francisco Liriano (3-8) gets the start on the mound for the Twins and righthander Tommy Hunter (3-4) toes the rubber for the Orioles.
