2012 ALCS: Detroit Tigers Sweep New York Yankees With 8-1 Win

Jhonny Peralta homered twice, and the Detroit Tigers beat the New York Yankees, 8-1, at Comerica Park on Thursday to sweep the American League Championship Series and advance to the World Series for the first time since 2006.

American League Triple Crown-winner Miguel Cabrera and former Yankee Austin Jackson added home runs for Detroit, and starting pitcher Max Scherzer struck out 10 Yankees, alloweing just two hits in 5-2/3 innings pitched. Series MVP Delmon Young went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Young hit .353 and drove in six runs in the series. The Tigers shelled New York starter C.C. Sabathia for 11 hits and 6 runs in 3-2/3 innings.

The Detroit Tigers downed the New York Yankees 2-1 Monday night in game 3 of the American League Championship Series. Justin Verlander threw 8 1/3 innings with 3 hits and 1 earned run allowed to get the win. Former Twin, Delmon Young hit a solo homerun and Miguel Cabrera was 1-3 with 1 RBI for the Tigers. Detroit takes a 3 games to none series lead and will host Game 4 tonight with a chance to sweep New York at 7pm. See the game on TBS. C.C. Sabathia will start on the mound for the Yankees and Max Scherzer will start for the Tigers.

The ALDS series games both finished in dramatic fashion Wednesday night. The Yankees downed Baltimore 3-2 in 12 innings to take a 2 games to 1 series lead. Raul Ibanez pinch hit for Alex Rodriguez in the 9th inning and hit a solo homerun to force extra innings and Ibanez hit a solo homerun in the 12th inning to win the game.
