The Vikings Stadium is either a sore spot for you or an inspiration for you. I’ll be the first to admit, I was totally against the plan to plop a stadium right where the old one is… parking is a major issue and even just getting into Minneapolis proper is a major pain in the arse. But you have to admit, these concept photos released by the Vikings organization yesterday make the idea of new stadium near the Metrodome site much more agreeable.

A Minnesota poll conducted by the Minneapolis Star Tribune indicated that voters favor an increase in gambling over the raising of taxes to pay for a Vikings Stadium. The poll indicates that voters support everything from state lottery scratch-off games, electronic pull tabs and slot machines at Canterbury Park.
No Referendum In Ramsey County
The Ramsey County Charter Commission voted 10-6 in favor of no referendum in Ramsey County for the Vikings Stadium plan. County residents testified by a 2-1 margin against the tax hike. The Vikings said if voters needed to decide whether Ramsey County could raise their taxes to play for the Viking Stadium that would have upped the cost by $110 Million because the process would have been delayed by 2 years.

The Vikings are planning a push for a new stadium when a special session is called early next week. The latest proposal is for a $1.2 Billion stadium with Vikings playing $407 Million, Ramsey County paying $350 Million and the State covering no more that $300 Million.

The Vikings announced an agreement with Ramsey County to build a retractable roof stadium at the former Army Amunitions plant site in Arden Hills. The project is projected to cost $1.28 Billion with the Vikings paying for $407 Million or 44 percent of the cost. Ramsey County has committed to pay for $350 Million or 33 percent and state is being asked to pay for $300 Million or 23 percent.
