Red Sox Edge Twins 7-6
The Twins lost 7-6 at home to the Boston Red Sox Wednesday night despite a feverish comeback. Minnesota fell behind 7-1 before scoring 5 runs in the 6th inning to cut the lead to 7-6. Sean Burroughs grounded into a double-play to end the inning and end the rally. Joe Mauer went 2-5 at the plate with 2 RBIs, Alexi Casilla was 3-4 with a run and 1 RBI, Ben Revere was 2-5 with 2 runs scored and Justin Morneau added 2 hits including a RBI double for the Twins.
Liam Hendriks started on the mound for the Twins and allowed 9 hits and 7 earned runs in 4 innings to take the loss. Anthony Swarzak threw 3 shutout innings to give the Twins a chance to comeback. The Twins are 5-14 and have lost 5 straight games.
Twins first baseman Chris Parmelee was hit in the head with a pitch from Justin Thomas late in the game and left with a headaches but wasn't immediately diagnosed with a concussion.
Minnesota will host Kansas City starting a 3-game series Friday night at 7:10, pregame on WJON at 6:40. Righthander Carl Pavano (1-2) gets the start on the mound for the Twins and lefthander Danny Duffy (1-2) toes the rubber for the Royals. Kansas City snapped their 12-game losing streak with a 8-2 win over Cleveland Wednesday night.
