May, Twins Shellacked By Orioles

BALTIMORE — The Twins and their rookie starting pitcher got thoroughly handled in a 9-1 loss to the Orioles last night.

Starter Trevor May continued to struggle to adapt to the big leagues as he fell to 0-4 on the season, giving up eight runs before leaving the game in the fifth inning.

Baltimore slugger Chris Davis provided the biggest blow – a fourth inning grand slam which turned the game into a blow out.

Former Twin Delmon Young tagged May for another home run in the next inning, his seventh of the year.

The Twins offense could not figure out Orioles’ starter, Miguel Gonzalez, who gave up just one run on four hits in seven innings of work.

The lone bright spot for the Twins was Trevor Plouffe, who hit his 11th home run of the season – a solo shot which was the 10,000th in Twins franchise history.

With the loss, the Twins fell to 59-75 and will try tonight to take a game from the A.L. East-leading Orioles at 7:00 p.m.
