High School Recap: 10-22
The Rocori Spartans and Sartell Sabres both advanced in the section playoffs with wins Tuesday night.
Rocori 24, Little Falls 21-
The #6 seed Rocori Spartans upset the #3 seed Little Falls Flyers 24-21 Tuesday night in Little Falls. The win advances the Spartans to the next round of the Section 8AAAA playoffs, where they will meet #2 seed Thief River Falls on Saturday.
The Flyers got on the board first thanks to a 38 yard touchdown run by Jalen Wuchko. Rocori answered with a two yard run from Skippy Virchow to tie the score at 6 after one quarter of play. Both teams traded touchdowns in the second quarter as Little Falls got an 18 yard touchdown reception from Bryce Zawtzke and Rocori got a 63 yard touchdown reception from Alex Budde to make the score 13-12 at the half.
Rocori took the lead back in the third quarter with 10:02 left after a Victor Schleppenbach 9 yard touchdown run made the score 18-13. The Spartans added another touchdown to take a 24-13 lead after 3 quarters.
The Flyers added a touchdown in the 4th quarter thanks to Bryce Zawtzke’s second touchdown reception of the game and a successful 2 point conversion to pull the score to 24-21 but the Flyers were unable to convert on 4th down late in the 4th quarter and the Spartans ran out the clock.
Sartell 28, Sauk Rapids 6-
The Sartell Sabres got 2 touchdown runs from Derek Stachowski in the first quarter and never looked back in a 28-6 win over Sauk Rapids Tuesday night. The win sets up a matchup against the #2 seeded St. Cloud Tech Tigers Saturday. Stachowski had three touchdowns overall for the Sabres, who will look to avenge a 14-0 loss against Tech earlier this season.
