New Gopher men’s basketball team Richard Pitino received a comittment from 6’3 shooting guard Daquein McNeil.  McNeil had originally committed to join Pitino at Florida International.

McNeil is considered a combo guard who can get to the basket but needs to work on his play-making skills.  McNeil is from Vermont Academy but originally from Baltimore.  He averaged 12.4 points per game and 4.8 rebounds a game his senior season.

The Gophers still have 3 available scholarships but may not use all of them.  Pitino is likely to pursue transfer students from junior college of otherwise.  Pitino is reportedly interested in 6’7 juinor college forward Cameron Forte from Howard College of Texas, 6’7 forward Rakeem Buckels from Florida International and 6’9 260 pound forward Tarik Black from Memphis.
