Badgers Pound Gophers 42-13

The 18th ranked Wisconsin Badgers beat the Gophers 42-13 at TCF Bank Stadium Saturday afternoon. Wisconsin keeps control of the traveling trophy "Paul Bunyan's Axe". Wisconsin led 28-6 at halftime and cruised in the 2nd half. Marqueis Gray was held in check throwing for just 51 yards and rushing for 68 yards. Minnesota scored its two touchdowns on a 96 yard kickoff return by Duane Bennett and a 5-yard fake field goal run by kicker Jordan Wettstein.

Twins Agree To Sign Carroll

The Twins have come to an agreement on a 2-year contract with 37-year old middle infielder Jamey Carroll. The deal is reportedly worth $2 Million and has an option for a 3rd year. Carroll can play both 2nd base and shortstop and has played plenty of 3rd base and outfield in the major leagues too.

SCSU Hockey Routs Wisconsin 7-2

The St. Cloud State men's hockey team defeated Wisconsin 7-2 Friday night. SCSU scored 2 goals in the first period, 2 goals in the 2nd and 3 more in the 3rd period. David Eddy and Ben Hanowski each scored 2 goals for the Huskies. Ryan Faragher had 26 saves. SCSU outshot Wisconsin 37-28.

SCSU Hires Men’s Basketball Assistant

St. Cloud State has announced the hiring of Dan DeWitt as an assistant coach in its men's basketball program. He replaces Andy Cone who left to become the head men's basketball coach at St. Cloud Technical and Community College. DeWitt is a Northern State graduate where he played basketball for Don Meyer and in 4 years at Northern State led them to a record of 98-27.

#11 SCSU Routs #6 UMD

The 11th ranked St. Cloud State football team defeated #6 Minnesota-Duluth 35-7 Saturday afternoon at Husky Stadium. SCSU extends their home winning streak to 14 games. The win gives the Huskies a 8-1 record and a head to head win against the defending division II national champions. Duluth beat SCSU in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament last season.

Gopher Football Beats Iowa

The Gopher football team won their first Big Ten game this season 22-21 over Iowa Saturday afternoon at TCF Bank Stadium. Minnesota came from down 21-10 in the 4th quarter to sneak by the visiting Hawkeyes. The Gophers win the traveling trophy with Iowa (Floyd of Rosedale) for a 2nd straight year. Marqueis Gray ran for the go-ahead touchdown with 2:48 left. He threw for 193 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 62 yards and another score. Duane Bennett ran for 101 yards and a touchdown for Minnesota.

Cardinals Beat Rangers To Win World Series

The St. Louis Cardinals overcame a 2-0 Texas lead to beat the Rangers 6-2 in deciding Game 7 of the World Series Friday night. After giving up 2 runs in the first inning Cris Carpenter threw 5 shutout innings to get the win. David Freese hit a 2-run double in the first inning and Yadier Molina had 2 hits and 2 RBIs for the Cardinals.

SCSU Hockey Blanks North Dakota

The St. Cloud State men's hockey team won their WCHA opener 4-0 at #12 North Dakota Friday night. Freshman Ryan Faragher played for the injured Mike Lee and had 44 saves to earn the shutout in net for the Huskies. Jared Festler scored the first goal in the 1st period for SCSU and that turned out to be the game-winner. Andrew Prochno, Sam Zablowicz, and Travis Novak added goals for the Huskies.

The Vikings have reportedly released receiver Bernard Berrian. The 30-year old veteran has just 7 catches for 91 yards this season and has been inactive for 2 of the last 3 weeks. Berrian has spent the last 3 seasons with the Vikings. His best season in Minnesota was his first in 2008 when he had 48 catches for 964 yards and 7 touchdowns.
