The Minnesota Wild got back in the win column Saturday night against the defending Stanley Cup champions.

The Minnesota Wild topped the Los Angeles Kings 4-3 in a shootout Saturday night at Xcel Energy Center. The WIld are in third place in the Western Conference, tied with division rival Vancouver.

After the Kings took a 1-0 lead 7:58 into the first on a power play goal, the Wild tied it up when former SCSU star Matt Cullen scored his seventh of the season to tie the game at one heading into the first intermission.

The KIngs scored again on the power play just 3:44 into the second period for a 2-1 lead, then made it 3-1 on a Justin Williams goal at 11:24.

Charlie Coyle cut the Wild deficit to one with his fourth goal of the season from Mikko Koivu and Zach Parise. Parise tied the game with a power play goal at 8:06 of the third period to send the game into overtime.

A fast and whistle-free overtime period ended with neither team scoring. The Wild scored all three times in the shootout with Parise, Koivu and Cullen all connecting for Minnesota.

The Wild are 21-11-2 and will host the Blues on Monday night.
