WCHA Weekend Preview
There are a lot of great matchups this weekend in the WCHA as eight teams bunched at the top of the standings look for separation.
#6 North Dakota @ #1 Minnesota
The Records: UMN– 16-3-3 overall, 8-3-3 WCHA (3rd Place) UND- 13-6-3 overall, 8-3-3 (4th place)
Last Series: UMN- Swept Alaska-Anchorage at Mariucci Arena (4-3 Friday, 7-1 Saturday); UND- Split with Colorado College at Ralph Engelstad Arena (3-4 Friday, 5-3 Saturday)
The Pick: Minnesota sweep. Emotions will run high at Mariucci, as this is the final regular season WCHA meeting for the two teams. Home-ice advantage will be huge for the rodents.
NOTE: Friday’s game can be heard on WJON beginning at 6:30 PM.
#7 Denver @ #19 St. Cloud State
The Records: DU– 13-6-4 overall, 8-4-4 WCHA (1st Place) SCSU- 12-10 overall, 9-5 WCHA (5th place)
Last Series: DU- Win/Tie vs Nebraska-Omaha (7-4 Friday, 3-3 Saturday) SCSU- Swept by Northern Michigan (2-6 Friday, 1-2 Saturday)
The Pick: Split. The Huskies are better than they played the last couple of weeks and should be amped up to return to WCHA play. Denver is a different team on the road (3-2-2) than at home (10-4-2), but they have more than enough firepower to steal one at the NHEC.
Minnesota Duluth (9-10-3 overall, 7-6-3 WCHA-6th place) @ Colorado College (9-13-2 overall, 6-9-1 WCHA-9th place) Pick: CC Sweep
Bemidji State (5-11-4 overall, 4-7-3 WCHA-10th place) @ Michigan Tech (6-12-3 overall, 3-10-3 WCHA-11th place) Pick: Split
Minnesota State (14-8-2 overall, 8-8 WCHA-8th) @ Alaska-Anchorage (3-13-4 overall, 1-12-3 WCHA-12th place) Pick: MSU Sweep
