Vikings Need To Draft A Quarterback In The First Round
The Vikings will embark on a critical NFL draft in 10 days. Minnesota has the 12th overall pick in the first round and drafting a quarterback is a priority for this team. Most experts expect Cam Newton and Blaine Gabbert, the top two quarterbacks available, to be taken prior to #12. The Vikings could reach for Jake Locker of Washington or Ryan Mallett from Arkansas at #12 or take a chance that a quality quarterback is still there for them in the 2nd round pick (#43 overall). Because of the demand for quarterback this season it seems unlikely that any of the top 6 quarterbacks is available. The Vikings could also try and trade their 2nd round pick and another pick to move back in the first round but the Vikings don't have a 3rd round pick this season because of the Randy Moss trade. Trading down in the first round could be the best option to acquire additional picks and then take a quarterback at that point. If the Vikings really like Locker or Mallett then they should take him at #12.
