Justin Verlander pitched seven strong innings for the Tigers in a 6-1 win over the Twins Tuesday night at Comerica Park in Detroit.

Verlander allowed five hits and struck out eight Twins while walking only one Minnesota batter. Three Tiger relievers combined to shut out the Twins over the game’s final two innings.

Twins starter Vance Worley failed to build on a promising pair of starts in his previous two outings. The former Phille allowed six runs in four innings including three home runs in falling to 0-4 on the season.

Minnesota falls to 11-12 on the year and will finish their three game series with Detroit on Wednesday at noon (WJON).
