Twins to Callup Carson; Activate Swarzak
The Twins have activated righthanded relief pitcher Anthony Swarzak from the 15-day disabled list and are expected to call up corner outfielder 31-year old Matt Carson from triple-A Rochester. Swarzak has been on the disabled list since July 25 with a right rotator cuff strain. Carson is hitting .277 with 14 homeruns and 49 RBIs at triple-A Rochester.
The Twins have already optioned relief pitchers Jeff Manship and Luis Perdomo to triple-A. The Twins were expected to call up first baseman Chris Parmelee because Parmelee is hitting .346 with 15 homeruns and 41 RBIs at triple-A.
The Twins will test the right shoulder of outfielder Denard Span today. He has missed the last 3 games with a right shoulder injury. The Twins begin a 3-game series at Seattle tonight at 9:10, pregame on WJON at 8:40. Righthander Nick Blackburn (4-8) gets the start on the mound for the Twins and righthander Hisashi Iwakuma (3-3) toes the rubber for the Mariners.
