Twins Should Have Traded Span

The Twins were talking with the Washington Nationals about trading outfielder Denard Span at the trade deadline but they couldn’t come to an agreement with the Nationals.  The report had Span going to Washington for 23-year old closer Drew Storen and minor league 2nd baseman Stephen Lombardozzi.  The National thought that was too much to give away.  That’s too bad for the Twins who have too many decent outfield options including Ben Revere as a future centerfielder.  Storen throws 95 MPH, has a 3.87 ERA and has 27 saves with the Nationals this season.

Storen would be a young, cheaper closing option that would make Twins fans forget about Joe Nathan and Matt Capps.  Lombardozzi is the son of former Twins 2nd baseman Steve Lombardozzi.  He is hitting .316 with 3 homeruns and 20 RBIs with 6 stolen bases at triple-A.  He can 2nd base and shortstop.  Lombardozzi would be a nice backup plan in the middle infield with Tsuyoshi Nishioka struggling in the majors.  I hope this trade can be explored this off season.
