The Royals beat the Twins 3-2 Wednesday night at Kauffman Stadium. Minnesota stranded the tying run on second base in the ninth inning when Danny Santana and Sam Fuld struck out looking to end the game.

The Twins were just 2-12 with runners in scoring position while leaving nine runners on base in the game.

Phil Hughes lasted six innings while allowing three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts to earn his eighth loss of the season.

The Royals’ Danny Duffy earned a no decision in his start after going 5.2 innings and walking six batters.

The Twins and Royals will square off again Thursday in Kansas City. Kevin Correia will start for the Twins against Kansas City’s Yordano Ventura.
