The Kansas City Royals won the series opener with the Twins 6-1 last night at Target Field. The teams were scoreless heading into the eighth inning when the Royals scored five runs to earn the win.

James Shields dominated the Twins for seven innings, allowing only a single to Josh Willingham in his start. Kevin Correia shut down the Royals for seven innings before Jared Burton melted down in the eighth inning.

The Twins and Royals will play again Wednesday night at Target Field. Danny Duffy will start for Kansas City opposite the Twins’ Andrew Albers.
