Twins Bats Tepid In Tampa Tuesday
After shutting down the Royals in his MLB debut, then getting shelled by the Yankees in his second start, Kyle Gibson was somewhere in between on Tuesday night in a 4-1 loss at Tampa Bay.
All four Rays runs came in the fourth inning. Gibson walked the first two batters he faced in the fourth, then allowed both runners to advance into scoring position with a wild pitch. After a flyout and a strikeout, Gibson allowed a walk, then back-to-back hits for a 4-0 Tampa lead.
Gibson ended up allowing four runs on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts.
Ryan Doumit had a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to make it a 4-1 game, and the Twins got two runners on base in the ninth inning. However, Justin Morneau, Oswaldo Arcia and Trevor Plouffe struck out in order to end the threat and the game.
The Twins and Rays are at it again Wednesday night at Tropicana Field. 6:10.
