Twins Bats Awaken Against Angels Monday Night
The Twins lineup finally came through with some clutch hits in an 8-2 rout of the Los Angeles Angels at Target Field Monday night. The Twins snapped a five game losing skid with the win.
The Twins got off to a rough start when Peter Bourjos smacked a 2-2 pitch from Kevin Correia out of the park for a 1-0 Angels lead to lead off the game.
The Twins answered in their first trip to the plate in the bottom of the first when Ryan Doumit’s RBI single scored Joe Mauer and tied the game at one.
Brendan Harris (yes, that Brendan Harris) hit a home run off of Correia in the top of the third inning to put the Halos up 2-1, but that would be the last run the Twins starter would allow on the evening.
The Twins scored a run in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings to take a 4-3 lead. Justin Morneau had an RBI double, and Joe Mauer and Trevor Plouffe each had solo home runs for the Twins.
Mauer, who ended up 4-5 in the game, had two more RBI singles in the late inning, with Pedro Florimon also knocking in a pair of Minnesota runners with a base hit.
Correia picked up the win for the Twins with seven innings of eight hit, two run ball. He struck out five while walking just one. Joe Blanton took the loss for Los Angeles, as he failed to get out of the fifth inning while allowing four runs.
