The Minnesota Twins have rebounded nicely from an early season skid to get above .500 once again on the season.

The Minnesota Twins swept a two game series with the White Sox with a 2-1 extra inning win Saturday afternoon and a 5-3 win Sunday at US Cellular Field in Chicago.

On Saturday, Twins starter Vance Worley recovered from a leadoff home run by Alejandro De Aza to pitch seven strong innings of seven strikeout, five hit ball in a no-decision.

The Twins tied the game on a Josh Willingham RBI single in the top of the third inning off of Sox starter Jake Peavy, then won it in the top of the tenth thanks to some heads-up baserunning by Ryan Doumit on an Alexi Ramirez throwing error.

Joe Mauer ran his hitting streak to ten games in the win by going 2-4 with two singles and two walks.

The Twins played from behind again on Sunday with De Aza getting an RBI on a groundout in the bottom of the fourth inning. Once again, a Twins starter would keep his team in the game long enough for the offense to arrive, with this time Scott Diamond pitching six strong innings.

Justin Morneau drew a two-out, bases loaded walk against Sox starter Gavin Floyd in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game at one, but then saw the White Sox retake the lead in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly.

The Twins pulled away in the top of the eighth inning with four runs off of a trio of Chicago pitchers. Aaron Hicks tied the game with a one out single that scored Trevor Plouffe from second base.

Willingham came through with a two-out, bases-clearing double to score three runs and send the Twins to the sweep.

Mauer saw his hitting streak snapped in Sunday’s win, although he did draw a pair of walks and score a run.

It was the second series sweep in a row for Minnesota, with both series shortened to two games due to weather.

Minnesota will host Miami on Monday night and Tuesday afternoon at Target Field.
