Today In St. Cloud Sports History- June 4th

1987: Tech tennis and field finishes second to Edina. It was the fourth time in seven years that the Tigers were state runners-up. Dave Jussila was the Tigers number-one singles player.

1989: Sauk Rapids beat Eden Valley-Watkins 9-8 in the semifinals of the Region 5A baseball tournament at Dick Putz Field. Sauk Rapids senior shortstop Scott Schulte was 3-3 with a pair of RBI in the win. Pitcher Pat Geislinger entered the game at 8-0 on the season and hung on for a win.

1990: Apollo split a playoff doubleheader with Moorhead at Matson Field in Moorhead. The Eagles topped the Spuds 10-1 in game one, with pitcher Mark Sannes improving to 7-2 on the season with the win. Game two went to the Spuds 4-0.

Apollo would on to lose the deciding game three 5-4 two days later.

1991: Tech tennis topped Stillwater 6-1 in a Class AA quarterfinal matchup in Bloomington. All three doubles teams won in straight sets.
