Today In St. Cloud Sports History- June 10th
1987- Cathedral tops Roseau in the state baseball tournament quarterfinals by a 4-3 final score at Municipal Stadium in St. Cloud. Three errors and a stolen base allowed Tom Meyer to score the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
1988- Rocori softball falls 7-3 to Apple Valley in the state quarterfinals. The Spartans finished their first-ever trip to the state tournament with a 4-1 loss against Duluth East in the consolation tourney.
1989- Tech finishes third in the Class AA state tennis tournament. The Tigers started the day with a 4-3 loss to top-ranked Edina but bounced back with a 4-3 win over Hibbing to take third place.
1990- Local athletes showed well at the state track and field championships in Blaine. Apollo senior Todd Williams jumped 14′ to take the state pole vault title. Sartell took the 300m relay, anchored by captain Julene Jarnot. The Sabres’ Missy Peterson won the 3200m title by the narrowest of margins, edging LaCrosse’s Stacy Johnson by 1/100 of a second.
1991- Rocori beat Pine Island 11-5 in the quarterfinals of the Class A state tourney. Spartans junior outfielder Josh Loesch had three hits and two runs scored to pace the offense.
