Twins sluggers Jim Thome and Jason Kubel were each placed on trade waivers earlier this week and ESPN reported Wednesday that both Thome and Kubel were claimed by unidentified teams.  The White Sox or Cleveland Indians are believed to be the teams that claimed Thome and the White Sox, Indians, Yankees or Texas Rangers are believed to be the teams that claimed Kubel.

If a team claims a player on trade waivers they have 48 hours to work out a trade with that team otherwise the Twins in this case can pull the player off waivers and keep them for the remainder of the season.  The 41-year old Thome is a free agent at the end of the season and Kubel also becomes a free agent.
