Timberwolves

The Memphis Grizzlies beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 95-92 Monday night in Las Vegas to win the NBA Summer League title. Memphis was the #8 seed while the Timberwolves were seeded 3rd.

The Timberwolves are in the NBA Summer League final after beating the Brooklyn Nets 85-77 Sunday in Las Vegas. Naz Reid had 20 points and 6 rebounds in 19 minutes to lead the Wolves.

The Timberwolves agreed to a 1-year $2 Million contract with 6'9 245 pound power forward Noah Vonleh. The 23-year old averaged 8.4 points and 7.8 rebounds a game last season playing for the New York Knicks.

The Timberwolves were in pursuit of point guard D'Angelo Russell last weekend but lost out to Golden State who pulled off a sign and trade deal with Brooklyn to land him. Some reports yesterday indicated the Warriors may be willing to trade Russell.

The Timberwolves signed 6'9 power forward Jordan Bell to an offer sheet. The deal is reportedly 1-year $1.6 Million. Bell averaged 3.3 points and 2.7 rebounds a game last season with Golden State. Bell is a restricted free agent which means Golden State can match the offer.

The Timberwolves lost out to the Golden State Warriors in their pursuit of point guard D'Angelo Russell. Star Tribune Sports Columnist Jim Souhan joined me on WJON today. He says the Wolves really were making a play for Russell so without any other impact free agents available the Wolves will likely look to make 2019-2020 a building season.

The Timberwolves traded up in the NBA draft with Phoenix Thursday night and selected Texas Tech shooting guard Jarrett Culver. The Wolves sent forward Dario Saric to Phoenix to move up from 11 to 6. Culver averaged 18.5 points and 6.4 rebounds a game...

The Timberwolves have the #11 pick in the first round and #43 in the 2nd round at tonight's NBA Draft. Jon Krawcynski from "The Athletic" joined me on WJON today. He says the Wolves are looking to trade point guard Jeff Teague and power forward Gorgui Dieng.
