Baker agreed to terms on a 1-year $5.5 Million contract with incentives for another $1.5 Million. Baker sat out all of the 2012 season after having Tommy John surgery in the spring. Baker may not be ready when the regular season starts. The Twins were trying to re-sign Baker after declining the $9.2 Million option for this season.

Twins General Manager Terry Ryan said the doctor had prepped Baker for the posibility of the replacement of the Ulnar collateral ligament (Tommy John surgery) in his right elbow. Doctors determined that the UCL had to be replacement too. Baker's rehab will now but much longer than the 6 months that was originally forecasted.
