Cubs Sign Former Twin, Scott Baker

Scott Baker is not returning to the Twins. Baker agreed to terms on a 1-year $5.5 Million contract with incentives for another $1.5 Million. Baker sat out all of the 2012 season after having Tommy John surgery in the spring. Baker may not be ready when the regular season starts. The Twins were trying to re-sign Baker after declining the $9.2 Million option for this season.

Twins Decline Option on Scott Baker Making Him a Free Agent

The Twins declined to pick up the $9.25 Million team option on Scott Baker's contract making him eligible from free agency. The Twins would like Baker to return but not for that price. Baker missed all of the 2012 season after getting ligament replacement surgery on his elbow (Tommy John Surgery). The 31-year old Baker has a 63-48 record with a 4.15 ERA while with the Twins in his career.

Baker Gets Tommy John Surgery

Twins righthander Scott Baker received Tommy John surgery Tuesday along with the replacing of pronator flexor tendon in his right elbow. Twins General Manager Terry Ryan said the doctor had prepped Baker for the posibility of the replacement of the Ulnar collateral ligament (Tommy John surgery) in his right elbow. Doctors determined that the UCL had to be replacement too. Baker's rehab will now but much longer than the 6 months that was originally forecasted.

Twins’ Baker Done For the Season

Twins righthanded starting pitcher Scott Baker will have surgery to repair the flexor pronator tendon in his right elbow and will not play this season. The tendon has bothered Baker for the last couple of seasons and he says he can no longer pitch with the pain. The surgery will require 6 months of recap but the surgery is not Tommy John surgery.

Twins Place Baker on DL; Beat Fort Myers 8-7

The Twins placed righthanded starting pitcher Scott Baker on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27 with right elbow tendinitis. He will miss at least 1 start. The Twins also optioned righthanded starting pitcher Jason Marquis to AA-New Britain to get a couple starts before rejoining the team. He's been away from the team for the past 2 weeks attending to his injured 7-year daughter.

Rays Rout Twins, Baker 10-4

The Twins lost 10-4 in Fort Myers, Florida to Tampa Bay 10-4 Monday afternoon. Scott Baker made his first appearance in more than 2 weeks and allowed 7 hits and 7 earned runs in 2 2/3 innings to take the loss. He had missed time with right arm tendinitis. Ryan Doumit hit a homerun with 2 RBIs and Brian Dinkleman went 2-2 with a run and 1 RBI.

Twins Place Baker On 15-Day DL; Callup Slowey

The Twins have placed righthanded starting pitcher Scott Baker on the 15-day disabled list with a right flexor injury in his right elbow. Baker was placed on the DL with a right elbow injury before the All Star break. He is 8-6 with a 3.21 ERA this season. The Twins are calling up righthander Kevin Slowey to take Baker's spot in the rotation.

The Texas Rangers beat the Twins 4-1 Thursday night to earn a split in the 4-game series. Matt Harrison threw 7 1/3 innings with 8 hits and 1 earned run allowed to get the win and improve to 9-7. Scott Baker threw 7 innings with 8 hits and 2 earned runs allowed to take the loss and drop to 8-6.

The Twins play a day/night doubleheader today against Cleveland at Target Field to make up for a previous rainout. The series is now a 4-game series. The first game today gets started at 12:10, pregame on WJON at 11:40. Righthander Anthony Swarzak (2-2) gets the start on the mound for the Twins and lefthander David Huff (0-0) toes the rubber for the Indians.

The Twins won their 6th game in their last 7 with a 3-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays at Target Field Tuesday night. Michael Cuddyer had a 2-run single and Ben Revere had 2 hits and 2 runs scored for the Twins. Scott Baker threw 5 innings with 3 hits and 1 unearned run allowed to get the win and improve to 7-5. Baker left the game early with a right elbow strain. He doesn't consider the injury to be serious.
