High School Football Section Quarterfinals Tonight

The High School Football section quarterfinals will be played tonight throughout the area. AM 1390-the Fan will broadcast the section 85A quarterfinal game between Sauk Rapids-Rice and St. Cloud Apollo. The Eagles have won 3 straight games and are 3-5 while Sauk Rapids-Rice is 1-7. Apollo beat Sauk Rapids-Rice earlier this season 9-6 to at the time snap their 22-game school losing streak. The Eagles have since beat Tech and Fergus Falls.

McAfee left the game after the first quarter with hip flexor injury and head coach Scott Hentges says McAfee is expecting to play next week. Sam Neeser and Mathew Worzala each scored rushing touchdowns for the Sabres. Sartell-St. Stephen is 4-0).

The High School football regular season will be half over after this weekend. The week 4 schedule includes St. Cloud Tech playing at Sauk Rapids-Rice at 7pm. The game is a "Tackle Cancer" game with opportunities to contribute to the battle against Cancer. Randy Shaver of KARE 11 and the Minnesota High School football coaches have gotten together to help fight cancer.

Week 3 of the High School Football season is tonight. The matchups this week include a showdown between Sartell-St. Stephen and Sauk Rapids-Rice, Rocori at Apollo, Grand Rapids at Tech, and Cathedral at Albany. Tech will play a home game at St. Cloud State's Husky Stadium because of mold and lead paint concerns at the Clarke Field concessions stands and in the locker rooms.

The Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm underachieved and battled key injuries in 2011 and finished with a 2-7 record including a 42-16 loss to Alexandria in the first round of the section playoffs. Storm are focused on improvement with head coach Bill Magnuson.

The high school football playoffs begin tonight throughout the area. In the section 84A quarterfinals WJON will broadcast the Little Falls at Sartell-St. Stephen game at 7pm, pregame at 6:50 with Ty James. The Flyers are seeded #6 while Sartell is the #3 seed. Elsewhere #5 seed Sauk Rapids-Rice plays at #4 Alexandria and #7 Apollo plays at #2 Fergus Falls.

(Sauk Rapids ran for 283 yards. Zac Judovsky ran for 146 yards and Chris Keske ran for 114 yards and the 2 combined for 3 touchdowns. Brock Jeppesen's 23 yard field goal in the 4th quarter broke the 22-all tie).

(Matt Johnson recovered a fumble in the end zone and Kevin Heysse had a touchdown reception for Tech. Jacob Peterson ran for 88 yards. Tech is 2-0)
