The Sartell-St. Stephen Sabres begin the Scott Hentges era this season. He replaces longtime head coach and current Athletic Director John Ross. Hentges had been the defensive coordinator under Ross. Hentges comes from a coaching family. His Dad, Bruce had been the head coach at St. Cloud Tech in the late 1980s and 1990s and is assisting Scott in Sartell.
Sartell-St. Stephen has hired Scott Hentges as their new head football coach. The decision was announced today on the Sartell-St. Stephen website. Hentges replaces John Ross who remains at Sartell as the Athletic Director. Hentges has held many different positions within the Sartell-St. Stephen football program. He has coached quarterbacks, running backs, linebackers, defensive backs and most recently defensive coordinator.
Longtime football coach at Sartell-St. Stephen John Ross is stepping down as head football coach after 17 seasons. He made the announcement to his team at their football banquet this weekend. Ross led the Sabres to State runners-up finishes in 2004 and 2009 and won Central Lakes Conference titles in 2006 and 2009.

(Eric McAfee ran for 199 yards and 1 touchdown and Eric O'Leary scored 2 touchdowns for the Sabres. O'Leary scored his touchdowns on a 96-yard kickoff return and a 16-yard reception from Blake Guggenberger. Sartell 4-6 and will play Rocori at 7pm Saturday November 5 at SCSU. (Jake Peterson ran for 158 yards and 2 touchdowns and Bryant Amundson ran for 145 yards and 2 touchdowns for Tech. The Tigers are 7-2 and will play at Brainerd at 2pm Saturday)

The high school football playoffs begin tonight throughout the area. In the section 84A quarterfinals WJON will broadcast the Little Falls at Sartell-St. Stephen game at 7pm, pregame at 6:50 with Ty James. The Flyers are seeded #6 while Sartell is the #3 seed. Elsewhere #5 seed Sauk Rapids-Rice plays at #4 Alexandria and #7 Apollo plays at #2 Fergus Falls.
Fergus Falls 14, Sartell-St. Stephen 13
(Eric McAfee was stopped on a 2-point conversion attempt with 1:35 left to allow Fergus Falls to come away with the win. McAfee ran for 54 yards and a touchdown and had a 10-yard touchdown reception for Sartell. Blake Guggenberger threw for 210 yards on 12-24 passing. Sartell is 2-5)
Sartell-St. Stephen 21, Willmar 20
(Willmar went for 2 and the win after scoring a late touchdown but thier 2-point conversion attempt failed. Sartell is 2-4)
