Tigers Beat Twins, Blackburn Optioned

The Twins lost 5-1 at Detroit Wednesday night after both teams endured a 2 hour and 26 minute rain delay. Justin Verlander threw all 9 innings with 4 hits and 1 earned run allowed with 7 strikeouts to get the win for the Tigers. Chris Parmelee homered to account for the lone Twins run and Denard Span was 2-4 for the Twins.

The Twins defeated the Tigers 8-6 Tuesday night to win their 5th straight game. The Twins scored 5 runs in the 3rd inning before Detroit tied the game with 3 runs in the 4th. Minnesota broke the tie with a sacrifice fly from Ryan Doumit in the 7th inning. Joe Mauer added a solo homerun in the 9th. Mauer was 3-5 with 3 runs scored, Josh Willingham was 2-3 with a homerun and 3 RBIs and Trevor Plouffe added a 2-run homerun.

The American and National League All Stars were chosen Sunday and the lone Twins' representative is catcher Joe Mauer. Mauer was picked by Texas Manager Ron Washington to backup Texas catcher Mike Napoli. Mauer is batting .325 with 4 homeruns and 36 RBIs this season. He leads the American League in on-base-percentage at .416.

Twins Edge Royals To Take 3 of 4 on the Weekend

The Twins defeated Kansas City 10-8 Sunday afternoon to win 3 out of 4 against the Royals over the weekend. Minnesota came from down 5-1 to score 5 runs in the 6th inning to lead 6-5. Josh Willingham had a 3-run homerun and Trevor Plouffe homered twice for Minnesota. Drew Butera added a 3-run homerun in the 8th inning to boost the Twins to the win. Plouffe has a team leading 18 homeruns this season. Jeff Gray threw 1 inning of scoreless relief to get the win.

Twins To Call Up Waldrop; Host Royals

The Twins are expected to call up righthander Kyle Waldrop from triple-A Rochester. Waldrop is a 2004 1st round pick who has a 1.26 ERA in 14 1/3 innings at triple-A in 9 games. Relief pitcher Jeff Manship has been optioned to triple-A Rochester. Manship has a 10.97 ERA in 10 2/3 innings for the Twins this season.

The Twins lost 12-5 at home to the Chicago White Sox Wednesday night. Nick Blackburn allowed 9 hits and 6 earned runs in 5 innings to take the loss and drop to 4-5. Jeff Manship allowed 3 earned runs in 1 inning. He was optioned to triple-A Rochester after the game. His ERA is 10.97. The Twins won 4-1 at home against the Chicago White Sox Monday night. Francisco Liriano threw 7 innings with 4 hits and 1 earned run allowed to get the win and improve to 2-7. Minnesota scored 1 run in the 1st inning and added 2 more runs in the 2nd. Joe Mauer was 3-4 with a run scored and 1 RBI and Ben Revere was 4-5 for Minnesota. Mauer is hitting .323 while Revere is now hitting .331. Jared Burton threw a scoreless 9th inning to get his 2nd save in as many days.

The Twins came from behind Sunday afternoon to beat the Reds 4-3. Josh Willingham hit a 2-run homerun off Aroldis Chapman in the 9th inning to turn a 3-2 deficit to a 4-3 lead. Trevor Plouffe hit a solo homerun and Joe Mauer was 2-4 with a run scored for Minnesota. Scott Diamond threw 8 innings with 8 hits and 3 earned runs to get the win and improve to 6-3. Jared Burton threw a scoreless 9th inning to get the save.
