Orioles Edge Twins, Liriano 2-1; Capps Out Indefinitely
The Twins lost 2-1 Wednesday night to Baltimore. Tommy Hunter threw 7 1/3 innings with 6 hits and 1 earned run allowed to get the win. Francisco Liriano threw 6 innings with 4 hits and 2 earned runs allowed to take the loss. Liriano gave up a 2-run homerun to Adam Jones in the first inning to Baltimore. Josh Willingham hit a solo homerun for the only Twins' run. Willingham was 2-3 and Trevor Plouffe was 2-3 for Minnesota.

The Twins defeated Baltimore 6-4 Tuesday night to win the first 2 games of the 4-game series. Minnesota broke the 4-all tie with 2 runs in the 7th inning. Ben Revere had the go-ahead RBI single in the 7th. Joe Mauer was 3-4 with 1 RBI and Ryan Doumit was 2-5 with 2 RBIs for the Twins.

The Twins defeated the Oakland A's 5-4 Monday afternoon to end their 5-game losing streak. Minnesota scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to come from down 4-3 to win. Justin Morneau singled in the tying run before Ryan Doumit's sacrifice fly scored Josh Willingham from 3rd base to put the Twins ahead. Matt Capps allowed 2 base runners but converted the save. He blew a save the day before against Detroit.

The Twins lost 6-5 at home to the Boston Red Sox Monday night. Cody Ross hit a 2-run homerun off Jason Marquis in the 7th inning to tie the game at 5 before hitting a solo homerun off Matt Capps in the 9th inning to break the 5-all tie. Minnesota went out to a 5-3 lead in the 5th inning after scoring 4 runs in the 4th inning and adding 1 run in the 5th. Ryan Doumit had a 2-run double and Danny Valencia hit a 2-run homerun for the Twins.

The Twins have agreed to terms on a 1-year contract with an option for a 2nd year with closer Matt Capps. Capps reportedly will receive $4.75 Million in 2012 and $6 Million with a team option for 2013. Capps was 4-7 with a 4.25 ERA with 15 saves in 2011. He began the season as the closer but lost the job to Joe Nathan. Nathan signed a 2-year contract last month with Texas.

Capps, closer Joe Nathan, and outfielders Michael Cuddyer and Jason Kubel are all free agents. Ryan says the Twins are interested in bringing back all of these players.

Michael Cuddyer had a 2-run single and Ben Revere had 2 hits and 2 runs scored for the Twins. Scott Baker threw 5 innings with 3 hits and 1 unearned run allowed to get the win and improve to 7-5. Baker left the game early with a right elbow strain. He doesn't consider the injury to be serious.
