The Gopher men's basketball team defeated Northwestern 75-52 at Williams Arena Sunday afternoon. Minnesota jumped all over Northwestern early and led 41-24 at halftime. Joe Coleman led the Gophers with 16 points and 5 rebounds and Julian Welch added 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for Minnesota. The Gophers shot 58 percent from the field and Northwestern shot 32 percent.

The Gopher men's basketball team lost 64-62 at home to Iowa Wednesday night. Minnesota led by as many as 11 points in the first half and led by 1 at halftime. Maverick Ahanmisi missed a 10-foot runner at the buzzer that could have forced overtime. Julian Welch led the Gophers with 14 points and 6 steals and Rodney Williams had 11 points and 12 rebounds. Minnesota was 4-23 from 3-point range.

The Gopher men's basketball team lost their 2nd game in a row 61-56 at #16 Michigan Sunday afternoon. Minnesota trailed 23-19 at halftime and shot just 42 percent from the field. The Gophers were outrebonded 34-26. Minnesota was led by Julian Welch and Rodney Williams with 10 points apiece and Ralph Sampson III had 6 points and 10 rebounds.

Minnesota trailed by as many as 13 points early in the 2nd half before going on a 10-0 run to cut the lead to 3. Julian Welch missed the front end of a 1 and 1 that would have given Minnesota a 4 point lead with 20 seconds left in regulation.

Julian Welch led the Gophers with 15 points and both Austin Hollins and Joe Coleman added 12 points apiece. Minnesota shot 57 percent from the field while Central Michigan was held to 35 percent.

The Gopher men's basketball team overcame a 9-point 2nd half deficit to defeat Indiana State 76-69 Friday afternoon in the Old Spice Classic Semifinals in Orlando, Florida. Minnesota trailed by 7 at halftime but finished on a 27-11 run to win the game. Junior college transfer Julian Welch led the Gophers with 17 points off the bench and freshman Andre Hollins added 16 points. Senior forward Trevor Mbakwe had 9 points and 9 rebounds.

The loss of Al Nolen to a foot injury and Devoe Joseph leaving for whatever reason has proven costly. Here's the good news, help is on the way. The Gophers have already signed shooting guards Joe Coleman of Hopkins and Andre Hollins of Memphis, Tennessee and they have offered a scholarship to juco point guard Julian Welch from Juba CC in California.
