Twins’ Mauer Says He Couldn’t Play
Twins' catcher Joe Mauer spoke to the media Monday afternoon and says pneumonia caused the premature end to his season. He insisted that the illness was too much for him to play with and he would have if he could have. Mauer played just 82 games this season and hit .287 with 3 homeruns and 30 RBIs.

The Tigers edged the Twins 3-2 Saturday afternoon in Detroit. Brandon Inge hit a solo walkoff homerun against Glen Perkins to win the game in the 9th. Joe Mauer was 2-3 including hitting his 3rd homerun of the season. Joe Benson added his first 2 major league hits. Perkins took the loss in relief. Anthony Swarzak threw 6 innings with 2 earned runs allowed but didn't figure in the final decision.

White Sox Beat Twins 8-6
The White Sox beat the Twins 8-6 Tuesday night despite holding 3 run leads twice in the game. Minnesota led 3-0 and 6-3 before allowed 5 unanswered runs. Jason Kubel hit a 3-run homerun and Joe Mauer was 2-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs for the Twins. Michael Cuddyer went 2-4 with a run scored and 1 RBI for Minnesota.

The Twins lost 4-1 at home to the Baltimore Orioles Monday night to begin a 4-game series. Baltimore snaps a 5-game losing streak with the win. Former Twin J.J. Hardy hit a homerun right after he hit a foul ball that appeared catchable for first baseman Joe Mauer but a Twins' fan interfered with Mauer.
Yankees Beat Twins 8-4
The New York Yankees beat the Twins 8-4 Thursday night in the first game of a 4-game series at Target Field. Joe Mauer was forced to play right field because of injuries to Matt Tolbert, Jason Kubel and Denard Span. Mauer made the routine plays and was 1-3 at the plate with 1 RBI. Tsuyoshi Nishioka went 2-4 with a run scored and 1 RBI and Ben Revere was 2-5 with 1 RBI.

The Twins defeated the Texas Rangers 7-2 Wednesday night. Joe Mauer hit his first homerun this season and had 3 runs scored with 2 RBIs for the Twins. Michael Cuddyer had 2 hits, 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs and Jason Kubel had 3 hits and 3 RBIs for the Twins. Brian Duensing threw 6 2/3 innings with 7 hits and 1 earned run allowed with 6 strikeouts to get the win and improve to 8-8 for Minnesota.
