The Gopher men's basketball team lost 75-51 in the NIT title game to Stanford Thursday night at Madison Square Garden in New York. Minnesota trailed by 6 at halftime and were quickly down double figures early in the 2nd half. Rodney Williams led the Gophers with 12 points before fouling out. Joe Coleman and Austin Hollins each had 10 points and Andre Hollins scored just 4 points before fouling out for Minnesota.

The Gopher men's basketball team defeated Northwestern 75-52 at Williams Arena Sunday afternoon. Minnesota jumped all over Northwestern early and led 41-24 at halftime. Joe Coleman led the Gophers with 16 points and 5 rebounds and Julian Welch added 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for Minnesota. The Gophers shot 58 percent from the field and Northwestern shot 32 percent.

Gopher guard/forward Joe Coleman is the Big Ten freshman of the week this week. Coleman has started the last 3 games and has scored 45 points and had 14 rebounds in that span. Coleman's best game was Sunday when he scored a career high 23 points in the win over Penn State.

Joe Coleman led the Gophers with 23 points including making 13 of 14 from the free throw line. Julian Welch added 15 points and Rodney Williams chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds for Minnesota. The Gophers shot 55 percent from the field while Penn State was held to 30 percent shooting.

Joe Coleman of Hopkins has been Minnesota Associated Press Player of the year for boys basketball this season. He was a unanimous selection after leading Hopkins in scoring averaging 22 points a game and leading Hopkins to their 3rd straight Class 4A state title this season.
