The Arizona Diamondbacks have reportedly agreed to sign free agent outfielder Jason Kubel to a 2-year contract worth $15 Million. Kubel hit .273 with 12 homeruns and 58 RBIs in 2011 for the Twins. He missed 2 months with foot injury. Kubel was a 12th round pick by the Twins in 2000 and had his best season in 2009 when he hit .300 with 28 homeruns and 103 RBIs.

The latest reports from FOX sports indicates the Twins have been looking at free agent starting pitchers Jon Garland, Joel Pineiro and Jeff Francis. Garland is coming off shoulder surgery and was just 1-5 in 2011 with a 4.33 ERA with the Dodgers. Pineiro was 7-7 with a 5.13 ERA with the Angles in 2011 and Francis was 6-16 with a 4.82 ERA with the Royals in 2011.

Twins sluggers Jim Thome and Jason Kubel were each placed on trade waivers earlier this week and ESPN reported Wednesday that both Thome and Kubel were claimed by unidentified teams. The White Sox or Cleveland Indians are believed to be the teams that claimed Thome and the White Sox, Indians, Yankees or Texas Rangers are believed to be the teams that claimed Kubel.

Kubel Suffers Setback; Twins Host Brewers Tonight

Twins' outfielder Jason Kubel suffered a setback in his recovery from a sprained left foot Thursday night. He was removed from the Class A Fort Myers game after feeling some discomfort in the foot after making a play. Kubel began a rehab assignment at Class A Fort Myers this week. The Twins hope to have Kubel back within a week. He will be re-evaluated today.
