High School Football Preview Week 8; Rocori at Tech [AUDIO]

The High School Football regular season comes to a close tonight throughout the area. The matchups include Rocori (4-3) at Tech (3-4) at Husky Stadium at SCSU at 7pm, pregame on AM 1390-the Fan at 6:45. Both teams have lost 3 games in a row. Rocori is playing without starting quarterback Mac Mueller who is out with a separated shoulder. Junior Brad Fabel has been starting in place of Mueller.

Tonight is Week 7 of the High School Football Regular season and the featured matchup in the St. Cloud area is Tech at Apollo at 7pm. The Tigers are 3-3 after are coming off back to back loses where they've lead in the 4th quarter. Apollo is coming off a 9-6 win at Sauk Rapids-Rice. The win snapped a 22-game losing streak for the school.

The High School Football rankings were announced Thursday and Rocori is ranked #8 this week in the Class 4A state poll. Rocori is 4-1 and is coming off a 20-12 loss at home to previously winless Sauk Rapids-Rice. The Spartans lost starting quarterback and top runner Mac Mueller. The Spartans will play at Big Lake Friday night at 7pm, pregame on AM 1390-the Fan at 6:45.

High School Football Preview; Tech Hosts Moorhead For Homecoming [Predictions]

Week 5 of the High School Football season starts tonight when St. Cloud Tech hosts Moorhead at St. Cloud State's Husky Stadium at 7pm. The Tigers are 3-1 while Moorhead and 4-0 and ranked #7 in the state in this week's Class 5A state poll. Tech is coming off a 28-6 win at Sauk Rapids-Rice last Friday. Tech is led by running back Jacob Peterson who ran for 188 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Storm. The Tigers are playing their home games at SCSU with Clark Field deemed unplayable due to problems with the locker rooms and concession stands.

Week 3 of the High School Football season is tonight. The matchups this week include a showdown between Sartell-St. Stephen and Sauk Rapids-Rice, Rocori at Apollo, Grand Rapids at Tech, and Cathedral at Albany. Tech will play a home game at St. Cloud State's Husky Stadium because of mold and lead paint concerns at the Clarke Field concessions stands and in the locker rooms.

High School Football Tonight; (Predictions)

The High School Football season continues with week 2. I admittedly underestimated Rocori last week. The Spartans pounded Brainerd in Brainerd to avenge the only loss they suffered in 2011. Rocori will host Alexandria Friday night at 7pm, pregame on AM 1390-the Fan at 6:45. Get a complete recap of high school football on St. Cloud Sports Saturday from 8-9am with Emmett Keenan. All area coaches are expected to appear on the program.

High School Football Practice Starts

High School football practice began in the St. Cloud area Monday. Sartell-St. Stephen has a new head coach, Scott Hentges, Justin Skalerud returns as the Apollo head coach, Gregg Martig is back at Tech, Dean Taylor returns at Cathedral, and Bill Magnuson is back at Sauk Rapids-Rice. Mike Rowe is back as Rocori begins defense of the Class 4A title.

High School Football All Star Game Saturday

The High School football All Star will be played in St. Cloud Saturday afternoon at 1pm at SCSU's Husky Stadium. The North will play the South. Area players playing on the North All Stars include defensive back Christian Pedroza or Rocori, defensive back Nate Meyer of Rocori, defensive lineman Alex Tray of Rocori, offensive lineman Paul Kaczor of Tech, defensive lineman Ben Ely of Albany and running back Josh Bungum of Paynesville.

State High School League Adds Super Class

The Minnesota State High School League is adding a "Super Class" for high school football starting in 2012. This 6A classification consists of the top 32 enrollments in the state. It includes schools such as Eden Prairie and Wayzata and even includes Brainerd. Brainerd is the lone outstate school that fits into this class. Is this good for the state?
