St. John's senior kicker Jimmie Mattson of Eau Claire, Wisconsin is the MIAC football special teams player of the week. He was 3-3 on field goals and made his lone extra point try in St. John's 27-22 loss at Bethel Saturday. Mattson made a season best 49-yard field to tie the game at 3 in the first half. St. John's finished their season with a 5-5 overall record.
Gopher Women’s Basketball Tops MSU-Mankato
The Gopher women's basketball team defeated Minnesota State-Mankato 66-56 Sunday afternoon at Williams Arena. Minnesota was led by Rachel Banham with 20 points and Micaella Riche added 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Gophers. Minnesota shot 47 percent from the field while Mankato shot 31 percent.
Gophers Lose Freshman Ellenson; Gopher Women Win
The Gopher men's basketball team lost freshman 6'4 guard Wally Ellenson for 6-8 weeks with a broken left hand. The injury happened when his hand got tangled up with a teammate's jersey during a rebounding drill. Ellenson is a left-hander from Rice Lake, Wisconsin. He averaged 21 points and 9 rebounds his senior year in High School.

Gopher Women’s Basketball Tops Wisconsin
The Gopher women's basketball team won their first round game at the Big Ten tournament 81-49 Thursday night. Kiara Buford led the Gophers with 19 points and Rachel Banham had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Minnesota improves to 15-16 and will play top seeded Penn State at 5pm tonight in Indianapolis in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals.
