#14 Gophers Host St. Cloud’s Nate Wolters Tuesday

The 14th ranked Gopher men's basketball team will host South Dakota State tonight at 7pm, pregame on AM 1390-the Fan at 6:30. The Gophers are 8-1 and are ranked in both national polls this week. Minnesota is #14 in the Associated Press Poll and #21 in the USA Today Poll.

Gopher Men’s Basketball Wins Exhibition Game

The Gopher men's basketball team defeated Southwest Baptist 86-59 Monday night to finish 2-0 in exhibition games. Joe Coleman led 4 players in double figures with 15 points, Rodney Williams added 13 and Andre Hollins added 12 points. Trevor Mbakwe played 11 minutes and scored 3 points for Minnesota.

Gopher Basketball Headed to NIT Semifinals

The Gopher men's basketball team won at Middle Tennessee State 78-72 to advance to the NIT tournament semifinals Wednesday night. Andre Hollins and Rodney Williams each scored 24 points to lead the Gophers and Elliott Elliason chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds. Minnesota trailed 32-28 at halftime but rallied to lead by as many as 9 in the 2nd half. The loss at home for Middle Tennessee was their first since November.

Gopher Basketball Advances In NIT

The Gopher men's basketball team won at Miami (Florida) in the 2nd round of the NIT Monday night. Minnesota went out to a 12-0 lead and never trailed. Rodney Williams led the Gophers with 21 points and both Andre Hollins and Joe Coleman each scored 14 for Minnesota. The Gophers shot 58 percent from the field while Miami shot 34 percent.

Gopher Basketball Eliminates Northwestern

The Gopher men's basketball team defeated Northwestern 75-68 in overtime in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis Thursday night. Freshman Andre Hollins missed a 19-foot jumper with 4 seconds left in regulation that could have won the game. Hollins led the Gophers with 25 points and 5 rebounds. The 25 points for Hollins in a new career high. Rodney Williams and Austin Hollins each scored 12 points for Minnesota.

Gopher Basketball Advances To Old Spice Classic Championship

The Gopher men's basketball team overcame a 9-point 2nd half deficit to defeat Indiana State 76-69 Friday afternoon in the Old Spice Classic Semifinals in Orlando, Florida. Minnesota trailed by 7 at halftime but finished on a 27-11 run to win the game. Junior college transfer Julian Welch led the Gophers with 17 points off the bench and freshman Andre Hollins added 16 points. Senior forward Trevor Mbakwe had 9 points and 9 rebounds.

Gopher Basketball Edges DePaul At Old Spice Classic

The Gopher men's basketball team defeated DePaul 86-85 Thursday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Old Spice Classic in Orlando, Florida. Trevor Mbakwe had 16 points and 12 rebounds and Rodney Williams chipped in 18 points for Minnesota. The Gophers shot 51 percent from the field and outrebounded the Deamon Deacons 37-24.

Gophers’ Mbakwe Gets Preseason Honor

Gopher forward Trevor Mbakwe is one of 50 men's college basketball players listed on the John Wooden watch list for the Wooden basketball player of the year award. Mbakwe is a 6'8 245 pound senior forward who averaged 13.9 points and 10.5 rebounds a game in 2010-2011 with Minnesota.

Sampson III To Stay With Gophers After All

Ralph Sampson III is staying at the University of Minnesota and will not forego his senior season of eligibility to enter the NBA draft. Sampson announced Monday that he removed his name from the list of draft eligible players in time Sunday despite reports that he didn't.

Sampson III Staying In NBA Draft

Gopher center Ralph Sampson III has likely decided to stay in the NBA draft. Sampson III needed to take his name out of the NBA draft list Sunday but he reportedly did not and will stay eligible for the NBA draft. His AAU coach said Sampson II will test the draft. He forgoes his senior year of eligibility.
