The Timberwolves won 90-75 at home against Orlando Wednesday night to improve to 3-1. Minnesota led 38-34 at halftime and blew the game out in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Luke Ridnour led the Wolves with 19 points, Derrick Williams added 14 points and Greg Stiemsma added 12 points and 5 rebounds for Minnesota. Brandon Roy had 3 points and 9 assists in 26 minutes for the Wolves.

Timberwolves Pick Up 3rd Year Option on Rubio and Williams

The Timberwolves announced today that they have picked up the team option on the 3rd year for 2nd year players Derrick Williams and Ricky Rubio. Both players are entering they 2nd year of a 3-year contract. Rubio was 2nd in the rookie of the year voting in 2011-2012. Rubio averaged 10.6 points and 8.2 assists a game last season while Williams averaged 8.8 points and 4.7 rebounds a game last season.

The Timberwolves won 95-76 in Winnipeg Wednesday night against Detroit. Chase Budinger led the Wolves with 21 points off the bench, Derrick Williams added 18 points and Nikola Pekovic added 14 points and 9 rebounds. Minnesota shot 46 percent from the field while Detroit was held to 32 percent.

Derrick Williams led the Wolves with 23 points, Coby Karl added 18 points and Robbie Hummel chipped in 2 points. The Wolves are 2-1 in summer league games and will play the NBA D-League Select team this Sunday.

The Timberwolves drafted 6'8 forward Robbie Hummel with the 58th overall pick in the Thursday night NBA draft. Hummel averaged 16.4 points and 7.4 rebounds a game in his senior season at Purdue. He suffered a torn ACL in his right knee twice in his college career. He missed all of 2010-2011 because of the 2nd tear. Hummel is considered an injury risk but is known as an outstanding outside shooter.

The Timberwolves got the #2 pick in the NBA draft lottery Tuesday night. The event was held in Secaucus, New Jersey. The Wolves had the best odds of any team to get the #2 pick but Cleveland got it instead. Minnesota has dropped from the position they should have been drafting 8 times and have never improved their position.
