The Twins have traded centerfielder Denard Span to the Washington Nationals for minor league righthanded pitcher Alex Meyer. Meyer is a 22-year old who was drafted 23rd overall in the 2011 draft.

The Twins lost their 2nd to last game of the season 4-3 in Toronto to the Blue Jays Tuesday night. Toronto went out to a 4-0 lead in the 5th inning. Denard Span hit a 2-run homerun in the 6th inning and Alexi Casilla added a RBI single for the Twins in the 7th inning. Ben Revere had 3 hits for Minnesota. Denard Span is not your conventional lead-off hitter.

You could certainly make the argument that he is a better #2 hitter in the line up.

He doesn't steal nearly as many bases as we would like, and when he does run - it sure seems like he gets thrown out a lot!

His career on base percentage is OK - but for his career he has more strikeouts, than walks
