The Twins have traded centerfielder Denard Span to the Washington Nationals for minor league righthanded pitcher Alex Meyer. Meyer is a 22-year old who was drafted 23rd overall in the 2011 draft.

The Twins lost their 2nd to last game of the season 4-3 in Toronto to the Blue Jays Tuesday night. Toronto went out to a 4-0 lead in the 5th inning. Denard Span hit a 2-run homerun in the 6th inning and Alexi Casilla added a RBI single for the Twins in the 7th inning. Ben Revere had 3 hits for Minnesota. Anthony Swarzak started the game for the Twins and allowed 4 earned runs in 5 innings to take the loss and drop to 3-6.

The Twins defeated the New York Yankees 5-4 Tuesday night. Minnesota scored 4 runs in the 7th inning highlighted by Denard Span's 2-run double. Joe Mauer was 3-4 with a run scored and 1 RBI. Mauer is batting .326 and is just 3 points behind Miguel Cabrera for the American League lead. Ryan Doumit was 2-4 with a run scored for Minnesota.

The Twins won 4-3 in 10 innings Thursday night to salvage the final game of the 3-game series against Kansas City. Denard Span had the walk-off RBI double for the Twins to win it. Trevor Plouffe forced extra innings with a solo homerun in the 9th inning. Plouffe was 2-4. Josh Willingham hit a solo homerun, his 34th and drove in 2 runs on the night.

Denard Span went 4-5 with a RBI single in the 9th inning for the Twins. Danny Valencia was 1-4 with 1 RBI. Nick Blackburn allowed 5 hits and 2 earned runs in 8 innings for the Twins.

The Twins downed Milwaukee 5-4 in 15 innings Sunday. Denard Span had the game-winning RBI single in the 15th inning to win in. Span was 4-8 with a run and 1 RBI on the day. Joe Mauer was 3-4 with 2 RBIs but left the game early with a bruised right quadriceps. Jame Carroll was 4-7 with 2 runs and 1 RBI for the Twins. Nick Blackburn started the game and allowed 9 hits and 4 earned runs in 6 innings and didn't figure in the final decision. Anthony Swarzak threw a scoreless 15th inning to get the win.

Twins Better Think Twice Before Trading Span!

Denard Span is not your conventional lead-off hitter.

You could certainly make the argument that he is a better #2 hitter in the line up.

He doesn't steal nearly as many bases as we would like, and when he does run - it sure seems like he gets thrown out a lot!

His career on base percentage is OK - but for his career he has more strikeouts, than walks
