Twins Move Liriano to Bullpen; Valencia Send Down
The Twins optioned 3rd baseman Danny Valencia to triple-A Rochester after hitting .190 with 1 homerun and 11 RBIs this season. The Twins also designated for assignment lefthanded relief pitcher Matt Maloney. Maloney has a 8.18 ERA with a 1-0 record in 11 innings pitched. The Twins are calling up outfielder Darin Mastroianni and starting picher P.J. Walters from triple-A Rochester. Mastroianni was .346 with 11 RBIs and Walters was 3-1 with a 2.70 ERA in 33 1/3 innings at triple-A Rochester.

The Twins ended their 6-game losing streak with a 7-4 win over Kansas City at Target Field Sunday. Minnesota scored 4 runs in the first inning and added 2 runs in the 3rd inning. Josh Willingham was a homerun short of hitting for the cycle. He was 3-5 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs, Danny Valencia was 3-4 with a run scored and 2 RBIs and Ryan Doumit was 1-3 with 2 RBIs for the Twins. Jason Marquis threw 6 innings with 6 hits and 3 earned runs allowed to get the win and improve to 2-0. Bruce Chen allowed 6 earned runs in 2 2/3 innings took the loss for the Royals.

The Twins took a 4-0 lead in the first inning but the Tigers scored 8 unanswered runs to win the game 8-4 Friday night in Detroit. Danny Valencia drove in 2 runs and Jason Kubel drove in a run for Minnesota. Kevin Slowey allowed 6 earned runs in 4 innings to take the loss for the Twins. Brad Penny allowed 4 earned runs in 5 innings to get the win for the Tigers.
Twins Top Cleveland 7-5 To Get A Split
The Twins beat Cleveland 7-5 Wednesday afternoon to earn a split in the 4-game series at Target Field. Minnesota scored 3 runs in the 8th inning to break a 4-all tie. Danny Valencia drove in the go-ahead run with a single in the 8th inning before Tsuyoshi Nishioka added a 2-run single.
Twins Beat Cleveland On Valencia’s Game-Winner
The Twins got a walk-off 2-run single from Danny Valencia with the bases loaded in the 9th inning to win the game. Valencia's 2-run single came with 1 out against Cleveland closer Chris Perez, Valencia's college roommate. Michael Cuddyer was 2-4 with a run scored and Joe Mauer was 1-3 with a run scored for Minnesota.

The Twins defeated Kansas City 4-3 in 10 innings Tuesday night. Danny Valencia hit a bases loaded walk-off single in the 10th to win it. Michael Cuddyer went 4-4 with a run scored for Minnesota and Luke Hughes was 2-4 with 2 RBIs for the Twins. Dusty Hughes threw a scoreless 10th inning to get the win. Brian Duensing threw 6 innings with 2 earned runs allowed but didn't figure in the final decision.
