He managed the team for 16 years. Cole DeVries led the Twins attack throwing 6 shutout innings with 4 hits allowed and 2 strikeouts. He gets the win and improves to 5-5. Joe Mauer, Josh Willingham and Justin Morneau each drove in 1 run and Ben Revere had 2 hits, 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases.
Twins Sweep Doubleheader In Kansas City
The Twins swept a doubleheader in Kansas City Saturday after having their game rained out on Friday night. Minnesota won game 1 3-1 before winning game 2 8-7. In game one Cole DeVries threw 6 2/3 innings with 7 hits and 1 earned run allowed to get the win and improve to 4-5. Justin Morneau was 1-2 with 2 RBIs, Jamey Carroll had 3 hits and Chris Parmelee chipped in 2 hits.
Twins Edge Rangers 6-5 to End Skid
The Twins defeated Texas 6-5 Sunday in Texas close a 10-game road trip with a 2-8 record. The Twins had lost 10 of their last 11 games heading into the game yesterday. Ben Revere went 4-4 with a triple, 3 runs scored and 1 RBI and Denard Span went 2-5 with 2 runs scored for the Twins. Cole DeVries threw 5 innings with 3 hits and 2 runs allowed (1 earned) to get the win and improve to 3-5. Glen Perkins threw a scoreless 9th inning to get the save, his 8th.
Oakland, Anderson Down Twins 4-1
Oakland starter Brett Anderson silenced the Twins for 7 innings in the A's 4-1 win over the Twins in Oakland Tuesday night. Anderson allowed just 4 hits and 1 earned run in 7 innings to get the win. This was his first start since coming back from elbow surgery. Cole DeVries allowed 6 hits and 2 earned runs allowed in 5 2/3 innings to take the loss and drop to 2-5.
Tigers, Scherzer Beat Twins 5-1
The Twins lost 5-1 at home against the Detroit Tigers Wednesday afternoon. Max Scherzer threw 7 shutout innings with 4 hits and 2 walks allowed with 10 strikeouts to get the win. Cole DeVries allowed 8 hits and 4 earned runs in 4 innings to take the loss and drop to 2-4. Miguel Cabrera hit his 30th homerun this season and has become the 1st Tigers player to hit 30 or more homeruns in 5 straight seasons.
Rays Rout DeVries, Twins 12-6
The Tampa Bay Rays downed the Twins 12-6 Friday night to begin a 3-game series. Cole DeVries allowed 7 hits and 8 runs (7 earned) in just 1 1/3 innings to take the loss. He drops to 2-3 and his ERA swells to 4.77. Joe Mauer went 3-4 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI and Denard Span was 2-5 with 1 run scored.
Twins Start 3-Game Series With Rays
The Twins start a 3-game series with the Tampa Bay Rays at Target Field Friday night at 7:10, pregame on WJON at 6:40. Righthander Cole DeVries (2-2) gets the start on the mound for the Twins and righthander Jeremy Hellickson (6-7) gets the start for the Rays. Trevor Plouffe will reportedly take batting practice today but will likely need a rehab assignment before being activated from the disabled list.
Mauer, Twins Comeback to Beat Red Sox
Joe Mauer hit a 3-run homerun in the 9th inning off Boston closer Alfredo Aceves to lift the Twins to a 6-4 win over the Red Sox Saturday night. Minnesota score 4 runs off Aceves in the 9th inning. Ben Revere was 3-5 with a run scored and Jamie Carroll was 2-4 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI for the Twins. Cole DeVries threw 7 innings with 4 hits and 2 earned runs allowed. Alex Burnett earned the win in relief and Jared Burton threw a scoreless 9th inning for the save.
White Sox Beat Twins 11-4
The Twins lost 11-4 to the Chicago White Sox Tuesday night. The Twins went out to a 4-2 lead when Josh Willingham hit his 2nd homerun of the night in the 6th inning. Chicago scored 9 runs off the Twins' bullpen in the 7th and 8th innings to win the game. Willingham was 2-4 with 2 homeruns and 4 RBIs and both Denard Span and Justin Morneau each had 2 hits for Minnesota.
Texas Rallies Past Twins 4-3 in 13 Innings
Texas beat the Twins 4-3 in 13 innings Sunday night. Minnesota led 3-0 going into the bottom of the 9th inning when Texas scored 3 unearned runs off Glen Perkins. Brian Dozier started the inning but committed an error that led to the 3 unearned runs. Ian Kinsler singled off Alex Burnett in the 13th inning to end the game.
