The Vikings have signed linebacker Chad Greenway to a 5-year contract extension worth $41 Million with $20 Million guaranteed. Greenway has led the Vikings in tackles each of the last 3 seasons. He was scheduled to make $10.1 Million this season after the Vikings used the franchise tag on him.
September 2, 2011 The Vikings closed the preseason Thursday night with a 28-0 win over the Houston Texans at Mall of America Field. Rookie Christian Ponder got the start at quarterback and was 10-16 passing for 83 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 61 yards on 8 attempts. Joe Webb played the 2nd half and was 5-6 passing for 43 yards with 12 yards rushing. Caleb King ran for 62 yards and 2 touchdowns for Minnesota.
August 30, 2011 The Vikings announced Monday that rookie Christian Ponder will get the start at quarterback Thursday night in their final preseason game against Houston. Kickoff Thursday night at 7pm, pregame on WJON at 6:00. Ponder will likely play the first half with Joe Webb playing the 2nd half. The two players are competing for the #2 quarterback job behind starter Donavan McNabb.
August 1, 2011 The Vikings signed the remaining unsigned draft picks including first round quarterback Christian Ponder Sunday. Ponder was taken with the 12 overall pick in the April NFL draft and is expected to begin the season as the backup quarterback to veteran Donavan McNabb. Ponder will be at camp today while McNabb cannot practice with the team until Thursday per the new collective bargaining agreement.
July 20, 2011 Vikings rookies Christian Ponder and Kyle Rudolph have worked out together since they were drafted in Florida and now in Minnesota as part of Larry Fitzgerald's organized offseason workouts. Ponder was throwing passes to Viking receiver Jaymar Johnson and Rudolph this season and Ponder has been living with Rudolph in his guest room while he looks for a place in live in Minnesota.
June 1, 2011 Viking rookie quarterback Christian Ponder organized informal workouts for some Viking players. Ponder and quarterback Joe Webb worked out at a Florida football academy Tuesday with receivers Sidney Rice, Emaunel Arceneaux, Percy Harvin and tight ends Visanthe Shiancoe and Kyle Rudolph. Players arn't able to workout with coaches or at their team's facility because of the current NFL lockout.
April 29, 2011 The Vikings drafted quarterback Christian Ponder of Florida State in the first round with the 12th overall pick in the NFL draft Thursday night. Minnesota tried to trade down from the 12th pick but could not so they picked Ponder at that spot. Ponder was a 3-year starting quarterback at Florida State and threw for a career high 20 touchdowns with 8 interceptions in 2010.
