High School Football Section Quarterfinals Tonight

The High School Football section quarterfinals will be played tonight throughout the area. AM 1390-the Fan will broadcast the section 85A quarterfinal game between Sauk Rapids-Rice and St. Cloud Apollo. The Eagles have won 3 straight games and are 3-5 while Sauk Rapids-Rice is 1-7. Apollo beat Sauk Rapids-Rice earlier this season 9-6 to at the time snap their 22-game school losing streak. The Eagles have since beat Tech and Fergus Falls.

High School Football Pairings; Doubleader at SCSU Tuesday Night

The high school football pairing in section 85A and section 53A have been released. In section 85A Moorhead is the #1 seed, Sartell-St. Stephen is the #2 seed, Apollo is seeded #3, Tech is #4, Alexandria is #5 and Sauk Rapids-Rice is seeded #6. The top two seeds get a first round bye with #6 Sauk Rapids-Rice playing at #3 Apollo at 7pm Tuesday night. #5 Alexandria will play at #4 Tech at 8:15pm at SCSU Tuesday night.

High School Football Preview; Cathedral Crusaders (Audio)

The Cathedral football team has improved each of the first 3 seasons under head coach Dean Taylor the bar is set even higher for this season. Cathedral won just 1 game in Taylor's first year there but 3 games the following year and 6 games in 2011. Cathedral lost some key players from last year's team but Taylor has high hopes for this year's team.

(Brainerd recovered a bad snap on a punt in the end zone in the 2nd half to help secure the win. Jacob Peterson ran for 114 yards and a touchdown. Peterson also had a 89-yard kickoff return touchdown. The Tigers are 4-1. Brainerd improves to 3-2).

Cathedral 21, Mora 0
(Cathedral improves to 5-0. Waylon Bemboom ran for 90 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Crusaders and Isaak Blitvich had a 75 yard interception return touchdown for Cathedral).

(Jacob Peterson ran for 197 yards and a touchdown and Bryant Amundson had a 1-yard touchdown run for Tech. Kevin Heysse was held to 1 catch for 60 yards. Aaron Sutliffe ran for 108 yards for Sauk Rapids. Tech is 3-0. Sauk Rapids is 1-2)

(Matt Dodge threw for 157 yards and 2 touchdowns including a 70-yard scoring strike to Waylon Bemboom. Cathedral is 3-0)
