ST. PETER -- Success on the ground and a big second half led to the Johnnies (5-1) defeating Gustavus Adolphus (6-1) 29-19 Saturday.

The Johnnies trailed 13-7 at halftime but rallied for the win after collecting four interceptions on defense and running for 300 yards as a team - 205 coming from running back Sam Sura.

Along with the high amount of yards, Sura scored twice on a pair of goal line plunges.

Gustavus drove deep into St. John's territory multiple times, but the Johnnies were able to intercept three passes in the endzone - including two by Andrew Norri.

Early in the fourth quarter, Gustavus tied the game at 20-20 and lined up for the extra point attempt but Johnnies' defensive lineman Sam Brynestad blocked the kick and Trevor Warner returned it 98 yards for a two-point score for the defense.

Quarterback Nick Martin sealed the win with a short touchdown scramble midway through the final quarter.

With the win, the Johnnies improve to 5-1 on the season and will host Carlton College next weekend.
