COLLEGEVILLE -- St. John's University's Athletic Director is leaving to take another position with the school.

Tom Stock has been Athletic Director and in charge of marketing and fundraising for 10 years. He has accepted a position as a Senior Development Officer within St. John's Office of Institutional Advancement. However, Stock will continue to be the Johnnies' Director of Athletic Marketing.

The school has announced current Assistant Athletic Director and Head Golf Coach Bob Alpers will take over the Athletic Director's job July 1st.

Stock says he worked in university advancement before becoming Athletic Director.  He says it was his goal to work as the AD for ten years before transitioning out of the position.

Stock is proud of the legacy he leaves behind in Johnnies' athletics.  He says some of the more notable things his department oversaw during his tenure were the retirements of football coach John Gagliardi, basketball coach Jim Smith, soccer coach Pat Haws and hockey coach John Harrington.  They also have added to the facilities, including renovations to Clemens Stadium, Sexton Arena, a new artificial turf baseball stadium, new soccer field and Gagliardi Field which is a new dome and practice field.
