SAUK RAPIDS -- The Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm opened their 2013 season with a 42-30 loss to Willmar Friday night.

Willmar would start out hot,  scoring on their first drive thanks to a one yard run by Mitchell Heitzman. The Cardinals were successful on the two point conversion, making the score 8-0.

Sauk Rapids' first possession ended in a field goal attempt. The kick went wide right, however, and the Cardinals lead remained 8-0.

When the Cardinals went on offense once again, quarterback Augustine Hahn found Chris Cunningham on the slant route for a touchdown for a 14-0 lead.

The Storm surged in the second half but fell short as the Cardinals won the game 42-30.

Sauk Rapids-Rice will hit the road next week to take on Bemidji.
