St. Cloud State football coach Scott Underwood is the NSIC coach of the year for the first time in his career.  That announcement came Tuesday when the NSIC announced its season ending awards.  Underwood and the Huskies are 9-2 this season and have made back to back appearances in the NCAA tournament.  Underwood is 33-13 in his career coaching at SCSU.

St. Cloud State had 8 players named to the North NSIC first team all conference squad Tuesday.  They are center Scott Horvath, quarterback Phil Klaphake, offensive tackle Matt Theis, linebacker Thomas Gruis, defensive tackle Matt Schwartz, defensive backs Tony Kubes and Marvin Mathews and return specialist Chad Peterson.

The Huskies will host Wayne State (Michigan) in the first round of the NCAA Division II tournament Super Region III at noon Saturday at Husky Stadium.
